Bright Field
There are few things that bring me more joy than playing with new techniques.
Recently, I decided to use traditional watercolor techniques on fabric, with the added challenge that the painting would be archival and water resistant.
I began with many types of fluid media, and practiced getting the effects I wanted on paper.
I had to limit the types of paint when it came to working on fiber, though, had to rule out most inks due to their lack of water resistance. Using low viscosity fabric and regular artist acrylic paints, I began with simple shapes, leaving room for the paint to flow freely and make its own patterns.
Since they looked like microorganisms to me, I decided to go with that theme.
The shapes were defined by machine stitching, and further detailed by lots of hand work.
There are multiple methods to produce images under the microscope- I chose the original, and simplest technique to imitate: bright field, in which the light source comes from underneath to illuminate the organisms. Their transparency and internal structures are on display providing loads of detail to add to my shapes.

Interesting. But whose work is it? Please include your name in the post. Thank you.
