Carrick Bend
For the "Integration" series, I chose to depict several ways two or more things can be joined together.

In this case, two double ropes are joined together in a knot called a Carrick Bend. I decided to use complementary colors to differentiate the two sides being joined. I attempted to make it look like a rope texture, although I'm not sure how successful that was. I did have fun going through my fabric scraps to find various yellows and purples.

Our challenge requires the quilts to be 40" in height. This quilt can be displayed vertically so that it's 40" tall. But I personally think it looks better horizontally because this is what it would look like as you tie it.
Technical details: 25x40 in. Hand-dyed, batiks, and commercial cotton fabrics; hand-cut pieces, layered using raw edge applique, and quilted with hand-guided machine stitching
