Integration: Take One (Martha Wolfe)
During the pandemic, my style evolved from strong representational work to more non-objective forms. This has allowed me to explore changes in how I live, moving away from the predictable. My newer works reflects my introspection, capturing the uncertainty and adaptation. Continuing in that exploration, I'm taking on Viewpoints latest theme, Integration.
My initial response to the word "integration" was somewhat visceral, evoking memories of living in the south in the 1960's. Rather than pursuing that line of thinking, I've chosen to look at color integration, starting with a monochromatic/grayscale study (which eventually included a twist). The viewer is free to interpert my color choices as they choose. I haven't any intent, except to "integrate" them.
I've started with a sketch idea I drafted in photoshop. Next I selected fabrics to create a subtle gradation. I toyed with layering the composition above and below a layer of organza and decided I didn't like the way it visually separated it into two compositions.
Still tweeking to get a composition I feel is complete. Adding some hand stitching......a ways to go before our end of June reveal!
