Last Light

Sue Dennis

22" wide x 42" long (56 cm x 107cm)

“…don’t hurry the journey…..better it lasts for years..” says the Ithaka poem. Like our lives, each day has a beginning and an end and the setting of the sun opens up a time for contemplation and wonder.

The beautiful sunsets and birdlife at Lara Wetlands camp ground inspired this quilt. I found the perfect piece of fabric, already dyed in my stash, obviously waiting for it’s moment to shine.

I’ve enjoyed working on the Ithaka series, drawing inspiration from both the poem and my own camping journey in 2022 from Brisbane to Darwin.

Materials: cotton, batting, thread, fabric dye, textile ink

Techniques: hand dyed whole cloth, machine applique, hand painted, machine quilted
