The Great British Baking Show by Martha Wolfe

"The Great British Baking Show" is my second piece in our "Integration" series. The name just came to me out of nowhere and felt like a good fit. Baking is by far one of the most wonderful forms of integration that came to my mind. It's a great analogy for integration of all sorts....a variety of disparate ingredients that mixed together make something wonderful (and delicious).

Then there are the "bowls" in the background of the composition and the Jetson style "TVs" in the foreground. Or maybe it is just a random, colorful composition....

Above is my original cartoon, drawn in Photoshop. Next, working on the layout with the base (of 50 white on white, gray on white and black on white) and background layer of "bowl" shapes.

Next, checking out values of "TV" foreground and moving everybody around and around.

Finally machine and hand-stitching.

"The Great British Baking Show" is made from cotton, commerical print fabrics. The base layer is machine-pieced. Background and foreground shapes are raw-edge appliqued with machine and hand-embroidery.
